September 2009 opens with a plea for theoretical and methodological plurality within the field of ethics, by Bart Pattyn.

Further, the issue contains ‘Religion in the Public Arena: Recognition, Vulnerability and Tragedy’ by Marianne Moyaert, a study of ‘The Attitude of Flemish Palliative Care Physicians to Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide: An Empirical Study’ by Bert Broeckaert, Joris Gielen, Trudie Van Iersel and Stef Van den Branden, a discussion of ‘Truth, Meaning and the Common World: The Significance and Meaning of Common Sense in Hannah Arendt’s Thought - Part One’ by Remi Peeters and a reflection on ‘The Historical Roots of Personalism: From Renouvier’s Le Personnalisme (1903), Mounier’s Manifeste au service du personnalisme (1936) and Maritain’s Humanisme intégral (1936) to Janssens’s Personne et Société (1939)’ by Johan De Tavernier.

Ethical Perspectives: June 2009 (vol 16/2)
The present edition of Ethical Perspectives contains two contributions on rankings that were initially presented during the 7th Ethical Forum: Patrick Loobuyck’s position and the conclusion offered by Philippe Van Parijs. The edition also contains a contribution by Bart Pattyn on the question of the egalitarian liberal conviction that moral consensus no longer exists, as well as an article by Arnold Burms on moral disagreement. Lastly, there is Per Sandin’s introduction to the “ethics of firefighting”.

Ethical Perspectives March 2009 (vol 16/1)
In this edition of Ethical Perspectives March 2009, Michael Hauskeller deconstructs the self-assurance transhumanists exhibit in accusing their opponents of basing themselves on outmoded moral presuppositions, arguing that their engagement appears to rest on equally (im)plausible points of departure.

Banu Kilan’s contribution examines Rawls’s concept of an ‘overlapping consensus’, insisting that the public dialogue and debate necessary for such a consensus are more fundamental than Rawls had imagined.

Renzo Llorente considers Singer’s theoretical principles, while Amir Saemi explores the extent to which moral justification is subjective or objective in character.

Isabelle Wienand concludes the edition with an article on different philosophical approaches to happiness. In spite of Kant’s suggestions to the contrary, it would appear that happiness is indeed a concept worthy of philosophical analysis.
