Editorial: Does Frugality Make Sense? Economic Strategies on a Philosophical Scene
Toon Vandevelde
   Page : 103 - 105
The bundle of essays one can read in this issue of Ethical Perspectives is the result of a conference on Does Frugality Make Sense?, organized by the Centre of Economics and Ethics of the Catholic University of Leuven at the occasion of the superannuation of Prof. Luc Bouckaert. The theme of frugality is highlighted as part of a personalist strategy towards spirituality (Luc Bouckaert), as implied by the virtue of moderation (Paul Van Tongeren) and as a wise strategy to slow down an overstressed society (Hans Achterhuis). John Sweeney argues that in the case of Ireland, economic growth became steadily less efficient in generating well-being. Philippe Van Parijs sums up the arguments by way of conclusion.
